We believe that the family is the foundational unit of society. When families are strong, our nation is strong. We are concerned that overusing technology is taking away from our family relationships and tethering us to devices rather than each other. It is imperative that we begin to disconnect from the web more often, and reconnect with our families. If we do, we will be happier and healthier individuals, stronger and more connected families, and part of a more stable society. It may seem ironic to have a blog that encourages readers to turn of the computer, but really what better way to reach the audience that really needs this message.
"Because tech
is so present and integral in our lives, our relationship with it can become
invisible to us. But the effects of our distractedness, its role in our
parenting, and its presence in our parent-child zones of interaction have
become increasingly visible...Every
time our child’s texting, TV, electronic games, and social networking take the
place of family, and every time our tech habits interrupt our time with them,
that pattern is broken and the primacy of family takes another hit.” Catherine Steiner-Adair, The
Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital
Age
